Abstract

The effect of method on the mode of reaction progress and the characteristic properties of the assembled monolayers were investigated during the monolayer assembly of bare zeolite microcrystals onto 3-chloropropyl-tethering glass plates. The tested methods were reflux, reflux with stirring, sonication, and sonication with stacking between the glass plates. The results revealed that the type of method sensitively affects the profiles of the coverage and the binding strength with time and that the monolayer assembly consists of four key steps: dispersion of microcrystals into the solution, attachment of microcrystals onto the substrate, migration of the randomly attached crystals leading to close packing between the microcrystals, and replacement of the substrate-bound microcrystals with those in solution.
