Synthesis, characterization and catalytic studies of iron(III), cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes containing triphenylphosphine and β-diketones

Abstract

A series of new β-diketonato complexes have been synthesized from the reactions of iron(III), cobalt(II), nickel(II) and copper(II) Ph3P complexes with β-diketones (acetylacetone, benzoylacetone and dibenzoylmethane). All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, spectral studies (i.r., electronic., magnetic., e.p.r., 1H-n.m.r.) and cyclic voltammetry. The new complexes have been used as catalysts for aromatic coupling and oxidation reactions. Higher catalytic activity has been observed for the nickel(II) complexes compared to the other complexes.
