This issue contains 28 papers on mechanics and mechanical technologies, characterization and testing, surface and coating technologies, which were presented at the 6th Global Conference on Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE2017). This conference was organized by Bosheng Academic Conference Solutions Co., Ltd. (China) and held from October 24th to October 27th in Beijing, China. The conference was aimed to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and scholars to exchange and share their experience and research results on all aspects of Materials Science and Engineering, and discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted.

CMSE2017 attracted aver 130 participants from 26 countries, namely: Armenia, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, China, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Spain, Turkey, UK, Ukraine, and USA. The participants (either scholars from universities or engineers from enterprises) presented their oral and poster presentations and listened to presentations of seven keynote speakers and sixty three invited speakers on seven topics, namely: nanomaterials, energy materials and semiconductors, mechanics and mechanical technologies, structural materials, characterization and testing, advanced material technologies, as well as surface and coating technologies.

The 28 papers in this issue were selected from over 80 relevant ones, which have been peer-reviewed by international experts from the Conference Technical Committee and were found innovative and instrumental to further scientific research in the field of Strength of Materials.
