Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Aims and scope

This paper presents a brief review of the application of static penetration to design of slab foundations. A procedure is outlined for derivation of a spatial diagram of soil resistance for structural analysis of a slab with consideration of nonuniformity of on-site soil conditions. Results derived from application of the procedure are described for an example of the design of a slab foundation with an area of 1,700 m2. Data on economic effectiveness and improved reliability where the proposed procedure had been used are presented.
