Abstract

Experience gained with the probing of soils using an “equilibrated-probe” mechanism, which makes it possible to measure the soil’s resistance to penetration of the probe at low rates of displacements comparable to the rate of displacement of a pile and plate during static tests is outlined. Results are presented for field investigations and design characteristics obtained from probing data and derived from plate and pile tests. Basic trends in continued research are noted for expansion of practical application of the method proposed.
