Upset Forging Temperature Effect on Structure and Tribological Properties of Sintered Al–7Fe–38Sn Alloy

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The paper focuses on upset forging of the sintered Al–7Fe–38Sn alloy in a closed mold and the process temperature, both affecting its structure and tribological properties. The Al–7Fe–38Sn composite consists of the hard (Al3Fe) and soft (Sn) phases in 17 and 20 volume fractions, respectively. It is found that ≤250°C forging has a negative effect on the composite plasticity, whereas at 300°C, the plasticity restores and even grows after multiple compression. Tensile strength of the composite remains stable and is ~130 MPa. It is found that Al3Fe phase particles intensively dissolve during heating up to the forging temperature in the presence of liquid tin.
