Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The structural features of AA2024 and AA5056 aluminum alloy samples under different energy impacts on the material during plasma cutting are studied. The study shows that the influence of the plasma jet impact is ambiguous, since the displacement of the metal from the cutting zone, which also depends on the supply of a shielding or plasma forming gas, plays an important role. The cutting zone is divided into a fusion zone, a heat affected zone, a transition zone and a base metal, which are characterized by different structure and properties. In the bottom part of the sample, at low values of the low heat inputs, beading is formed with a structure similar to that of the fusion zone. The most significant factor is the softening of the AA2024 alloy. The highest values of the macrogeometry distortion of the specimens are characteristic for the AA5056 alloy.
