The paper shows a correct application of the modified mixture rule for a description of the elastic modulus of polymer nanocomposites. It is found that aggregation of a two-dimensional nanofiller (graphene oxide), which is characterized by the number of platelets in one aggregate (tactoid), is the only factor that determines the elastic modulus of these nanomaterials at a constant concentration of the nanofiller in the matrix polymer. The quality of functionalization of the two-dimensional nanofiller is identified by the ability to enhance the interaction between the nanofiller and the matrix polymer, and not to change (or weaken) the interaction between the nanofiller platelets.
