Luminescence of Nanocrystalline Si in (Si + CaF2)/CaF2 Structures in the Visible Range of the Spectrum

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

Photoluminescence from Si nanocrystals embedded in a CaF2 dielectric matrix and formed on the surface of a Si(111) substrate is demonstrated. The photoluminescence was clearly seen in a dark room at room temperature. The typical photoluminescence spectrum has a 664 nm peak wavelength and a 134 nm full width at half maximum (FWHM). The photoluminescence was not observed at a lower temperature (77 K).
