On Mechanisms of Ultrasonic Sedimentation of Fine Aerosols

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

Based on the analysis of a physical–mathematical model of ultrasonic sedimentation of aerosols with characteristic particle sizes from 1 to 10 μm, the basic mechanisms of the process – ultrasonic coagulation of particles and radiation pressure – are revealed. The results are shown of experiments on ultrasonic sedimentation of a model aerosol medium (glycerin solution). The results are presented of calculations using a mathematical model of coagulation and sedimentation based on the Smoluchowski equation taking into account different mechanisms of aerosol sedimentation under the effect of ultrasound depending on the particle size and the ultrasound intensity.
