Thermoelastic Martensitic Transformations and Superelasticity in the [001]-Oriented FeNiCoAlNb Single Crystals

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

Using single crystals of a ferromagnetic alloy (Fe – 28% Ni – 17% Co – 11.5% Al – 2.5% Nb (at.%)), the effect of aging at 973 K on the evolution of thermoelastic, stress-induced γ–α′-martensitic transformations (MTs) and tension-induced superelasticity (SE) is investigated. It is shown that the maximum SE values during γ–α′ MTs, equal to 8.5%, are achieved by aging at 973 К for 1 h. With the aging time increasing to 5–7 h, the value of SE decreases down to 6%. The reasons for the dependence of the behavior of stress hysteresis Δσ and the value of reversible strain on the aging time are discussed.
