Peculiarities of passage of an oscillator through a potential barrier

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The problem of passage of a classical oscillator through a potential barrier is solved. Nonlinear sub-barrier passage and above-barrier reflection of the oscillator with elements of energy quantization are revealed. Within the framework of the laws of classical mechanics, an explanation is proposed for the obtained regularities of motion of the oscillator. The results not only enable an extension of the region of applicability of the laws of classical mechanics, but also reveal the essence of its limitations due to the requirement of holonomic couplings in the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms.
