Stable colloidal solutions of CdS and ZnS nanoparticles of diameter 3–6 nm in ethyl acetate (EA), 2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and H2O have been obtained. The size of the synthesized nanoparticles did not depend on the ratios of the precursors. It has been shown that stabilization of the particles is due to a charge factor and is attained in the absence of stabilizing additives. The synthesized CdS and ZnS quantum dots radiate over wide spectral regions: 450–600 and 350–500 nm, respectively.
