Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The Monte Carlo method with the Metropolis algorithm is used to analyze the ground state of a spherical nanosized ferrimagnetic particle with spinel structure. All mechanisms responsible for change of magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic particle that goes into the nanosized state are considered in calculations. It is demonstrated that the main reason for the significant decrease of the magnetic moment of these particles is the change of the spin configuration in the surface layer of the nanoparticle caused by the anomalously large anisotropy in the subsurface layer.
