Instantaneous impact approximation in laser fields of ultrashort duration

Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The instantaneous impact approximation is considered with application to the processes stimulated by electron collisions with atoms and nuclei in fields of short laser pulses. It consists in calculation of the probabilities of processes for the known electron velocities determined by the initial conditions and the laser field at the current moment of time with subsequent integration of the differential reaction yield over the time during which the pulse acts. Conditions of applicability of the approximations for nonrelativistic and relativistic cases are determined. The examined method can be used mainly for calculation of nuclear reactions stimulated by the electron impact in laser fields of relativistic intensity.
