Abstract

Problems of the existing system for testing electrical steel are briefly considered in this review. One of these problems is the necessity of developing automated facilities for testing magnetic characteristics and software and hardware for these facilities, organization of their production, and their metrological certification. The results of recent studies aimed at the investigation of nonstandardized magnetic characteristics are analyzed in more detail. The objective of these studies was not so much to ensure more efficient industrial testing of the steel quality as it was to study the specific features of processes occurring in metals, thereby contributing to the development of objective concepts on the physics of electrical-steel magnetization reversal. This class of characteristics incorporates, e.g., the coercive force (H c ), the value and character of anisotropy of the magnetic properties, the degree of perfection of the crystallographic texture, the value and character of the distribution of internal mechanical stresses and the influence of electrically insulating coatings on them, and the energy loss caused by the rotational magnetization reversal.
