Abstract

There has been an increase in the breakdown hazard of gas trunk pipelines (GTPs) caused by stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) in their tube metal. The increasing scope of inspection of SCC in GTPs necessitates methods and techniques for finding and estimating SCC parameters. The techniques and equipment for detecting SCC during the inspection of pits in the operational GTPs are developed and used successfully. With consideration for positive tests, more efficient testing equipment is developed for use in reevaluation and maintenance of GTPs.
