Genrikh Aleksandrovich Tolstikov was born on January 21, 1933, in the settlement Kangurt, Tadjik Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR). In 1957, he graduated from the Kazakhstan University. In 1957–1968, he worked at the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Academy of Sciences, and in 1968–1993, he worked at the Institute of Chemistry of the Bashkir Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (currently, Ufa Institute of Chemistry, UFRC RAS) in the Republic of Bashkortostan. In 1969, G. A. Tolstikov became Doctor of Chemical Sciences, and in 1970, he became Professor. In 1981, G. A. Tolstikov was elected Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and in 1987, he was elected Full Member of the Academy. From 1977 to 1993, he was Director of the Ufa Institute of Chemistry and, simultaneously, in the period from 1984 to 1993, he was Chairman of the Presidium of the Bashkir Branch of the Academy of Sciences, then Bashkir Science Center, Ural Branch of RAS. From 1987 to 1993, he was the First Deputy Chairman of the Ural Branch of RAS. Since 1993, he worked at the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, Siberian Branch of RAS, and from 1997 to 2002, he was Director of this Institute. His children, the son Aleksandr and the daughter Tatyana, followed in their parents’ footsteps and dedicated themselves to science. Aleksandr Genrikhovich Tolstikov is a well-known specialist in fine organic synthesis; in 2000, he was elected Corresponding Member of RAS. Tatyana Genrikhovna Tolstikova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Pharmacological Research of the N. N. Vorozhtsov Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, Siberian Branch of RAS, delivered an address to the participants of the Readings with gratitude from the Tolstikov family.
