Russian Chemical Bulletin Aims and scope

Abstract

A catalytic system obtained by mixing 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine and iodine was tested for the reaction of monosubstituted oxiranes with CO2 affording organic cyclic carbonates. The catalyst turned out to be effective not only for substrates with substituents, which have different sizes and donor-acceptor properties, but also in the case of bis-oxiranes.
