Abstract

The activity of the platinum (1%) catalysts supported on oxides of rare-earth elements of the cerium and yttrium groups was studied. Under the liquid-phase hydrogenation conditions, the studied catalytic systems are characterized by a high selectivity and the yield of 4-aminophenol is close to quantitative. In terms of the initial hydrogenation rate of 4-nitrophenol the system 1%Pt/Dy2O3 is 4.9 times superior to the standard 1%Pt/Al2O3 catalyst, whereas the system 1%Pt/Ce2O3 is 1.4 times more active than the standard catalyst.
