Abstract

Frequency measurements of aqueous solutions of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were carried out in the range of 0.5-36.5 GHz at temperatures 293-323 K. Relaxation spectra were used to determine dipole relaxation times and the distribution parameter of these times, which were in good agreement with the Cole-Cole model. The thermodynamic characteristics of dipole relaxation and viscous flow were calculated based on the obtained results and found to be similar to the energy characteristics of the hydrogen bond and to have maximum values in the region of 0.3-0.4 mole fractions of DMSO. Kinetics of intermolecular interaction suggesting the formation in mixtures of 1 ∶ 2 and 2 ∶ 1 DMSO-Н2О complexes were studied.
