Penta-O-{1-[2-(glycidyloxy)ethoxy]ethyl}-d-glucopyranose: synthesis and application for the preservation of cardiovascular bioprostheses

Abstract

Conditions for the atom-economical synthesis of penta-O-{1-[2-(glycidyloxy)ethoxy]ethyl}-d-glucopyranose by the reaction of exhaustive electrophilic addition of α-d-glucose to 2-vinyloxyethyl glycidyl ether were elaborated. Scanning electron microscopy and IR spectroscopy were used to study the effect of penta-O-{1-[2-(glycidyloxy)ethoxy]ethyl}-d-glucopyranose on the surface of the biological tissue under conditions of the base preservation of xenogenic biomaterial. The results obtained indicate an improvement of morphological characteristics of the biomaterial surface and a high density of intermolecular bonds of the collagen fibres.
