Abstract

The processes of resonant electron capture by tripeptide molecules of diglycylalanine and trialanine were studied in the electron energy range 0–14 eV. The experimentally observed H-shift rearrangement reactions, metastable dissociations of fragmentation ions, and electron autodetachment processes by the fragmentation ions indicate that short-lived molecular negative ions are formed in vibrationally excited states in the whole energy range and their subsequent fragmentation occurs predominantly via nonradiative transitions. The characteristic reactions in negative ions of peptides were identified and considered to be model reactions in protein decomposition processes through electron-molecular interactions.
