Abstract
An empirical correlation equation is proposed relating the “gel—liquid crystal” main phase transition temperatures, T m, of aqueous dispersions of highly asymmetric diacyl phosphatidyl-cholines with saturated acyl chains to the chain volumes. The equation permits the prediction of T m values with an accuracy close to their experimental reproducibility. The sn-1 and sn-2 acyl chains affect the T m values in different manner, whereas the excess chain fragments have an identical effect on the transition temperatures.
