Abstract
The formation of clusters CH2(COO−)(COOAg3 +) (absorption bands at 280 and 460 nm) by the reduction of silver ions in the presence of malonate ions in an aqueous solution was studied by pulse radiolysis. The disappearance of the clusters affords colloidal silver. The mechanism of silver nucleation was discussed, and the rate constants of some reactions were determined.
