A Brønsted acidic ionic liquid, [(CH2)3SO3HMIM][HSO4], as an efficient catalyst for synthesis of 1-(benzothiazolylamino)methyl-2-naphthols

Abstract

1-(Benzothiazolylamino)methyl-2-naphthols can be synthesized in the presence of the Brønsted acidic ionic liquid 3-methyl-1-(4-sulfonic acid)propylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([(CH2)3SO3HMIM][HSO4]). A wide range of aldehydes readily undergo condensation with 2-naphthol and 2-aminobenzothiazole to afford the desired products in high to excellent yields. This method has several advantages, for example simple procedure and easy work-up, short reaction times, and excellent yields. The catalyst could be recycled and reused without substantial reduction in its catalytic activity.
