Anew method for synthesizing porous glass-ceramic granules less than 1 mm in size from zeolite rocks is proposed. The method consists in forcing a charge with a screw through a granulating grid that makes it possible to intensify the silicate formation reaction. As a result the optimum charge extrusion frequency and its effect on material final properties after firing are established. The advantages achieved concern use of local zeolite rocks in production, simplicity of the extrusion method, and reduction of the alkaline component in a charge. The material obtained has extensive prospects for use in high-strength concrete for special purposes, and in areas for saving energy and fire safety.
