Al2O3–SiC–C Concretes Produced from Recycled Materials to Make Baffles for Continuous-Caster Tundishes

  • Published:
Refractories and Industrial Ceramics Aims and scope

The use of recycled materials to make the baffles of continuous-caster tundishes is examined. It is determined that the baffles must be heated in three stages when they are made from concrete with a recycled mullite-silica filler. The baffles are heated in an oxidizing atmosphere in the shop, which can cause graphite to be burned out of them. The loss of the graphite could in turn diminish the baffles’ resistance to slag during their use in tundishes.
