Summary

4-(Trialkylammonio)propansultans (TAAPSs), synthesized by the addition reaction of 1,3-propane sultone (PS) and trialkylamines (TAAs), were developed as new phase transfer catalysts for synthesizing dialkoxymethane. The reaction between alcohol and dibromomethane in a highly alkaline solution of KOH/organic solvent two-phase medium were carried out under phase-transfer catalysis (PTC) using TAAPSs as the catalyst. High conversion of dibromomethane and high selectivity of the product were obtained using TAAPSs as the catalyst.</o:p>
