Excitation of Eigenwaves by a Vortex Electromagnetic Beam in a Semi-Infinite Cylinder Filled with a Gyrotropic Medium

We study the diffraction of a Laguerre–Gaussian electromagnetic vortex beam by the end of a semi-infinite cylinder filled with a gyrotropic medium. A system of integral equations for the coefficients of eigenfunction expansions of the field in free half-space and the half-space, which contains the cylinder, is obtained and solved. The possibility of frequency-selective excitation of the lowest eigenmodes of the cylinder with given azimuthal indices by a Laguerre–Gaussian beam with the corresponding values of the topological charge is demonstrated.
