Electronic Tuning of the Working Frequency of a Gyrotron with an Echelette Structure

  • Published:
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics Aims and scope

We discuss the possibility of developing high-power gyrotrons with electric tuning of operating frequencies on the basis of the use of echelette systems. Along with the high selective properties, such systems are capable of reducing Q-factors of modes so that resonance properties completely disappear, while the electromagnetic-field structure, which ensures the efficient interaction of the field with the electron beam, is retained. A gyrortron with an echelette cavity is described, in which the Q-factor of the working mode was below the minimum diffraction Q-factor and the working frequency was tuned in a wide range.
