Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal Aims and scope

A method for the purification of flavonoids isolated from the aerial part of Glycyrrhiza glabra L. was developed. It was established that total flavonoids should be isolated from a concentrated extract diluted with water using CHCl3 at least six times; from the CHCl3 extract, using 5% aqueous Na2CO3 solution at least eight times. Neutralization of the soda extract to pH 6.5 – 7 with 5% HCl solution was proposed. The optimum parameters for precipitation of total flavonoids were found to be triple reprecipitation of technical glacembrin with 60% EtOH. Technology for obtaining glacembrin substance based on flavonoids of the aerial part of G. glabra that possessed anti-inflammatory, antihypoxic, and analgesic activity was developed based on the research results. A spectrophotometric method for quantitative determination at 292 nm of total flavonoids recalculated as pinocembrin was proposed.
