Anti-Inflammatory Activity of Benzyl Glycosides from the Flowers of Lilium Asiatic Hybrids

  • Published:
Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal Aims and scope

Repeated column chromatography of solvent fractions extracted from the flowers of Lilium Asiatic hybrids ensured purification of three benzyl glycosides IIII, which were reliably identified based on the analysis of various spectroscopic data. Compounds IIII (20 μg/mL) reduced nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kB) (p-p65/p-65) by 9.64 ± 0.66%, 30.98 ± 1.08%, and 54.04 ± 1.12%, respectively. Compounds II and III markedly inhibited the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-stimulated human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) by 38.68 ± 2.52% and 37.9 ± 2.76%, respectively. Compound III significantly suppressed U937 monocytes attachment to the TNF-α-stimulated HASMCs.
