The great Russian scientist and pharmacologist, laureate of the RF State Prize, Doctor of Medical Sciences Sergei Danilovich Yuzhakov passed away after a serious illness on July 23, 2011. He was the co-inventor of a series of original domestic drugs, e.g., the β- and α-adrenoblocker proxodolol and the class III antiarrhythmic nibentan. He was the first to demonstrate the high anti-arrhythmic activity of niferidyl, which was confirmed during a clinical trial. Sergei Danilovich contributed greatly to the creation of the original anti-allergic drug theoretin and also the vasodilator and antihypoxic agent vinpocenate.

Being a highly erudite pharmacologist, Sergei Danilovich participated actively in the operation of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal, serving as a member of the editorial board and scientific editor for the medicine section. He was the author of the recently published dictionary-handbook Modern Drugs and also many scientific articles and several patents on drugs.

We will always remember Sergei Danilovich as a brilliant scientist, principled man, and loyal friend.
