Abstract

Various polymeric nanocomposites have been widely investigated for laser beam attenuation, using polyvinyl chloride and polymethyl methacrylate. This study experimentally investigated polymer nanocomposites based on polyethylene oxide (PEO) with lead tetroxide (Pb3O4) semiconductor nanoparticles. The PEO: Pb3O4 polymer nanocomposites films were prepared using the solution casting technique. A robust laser power attenuation for semiconductor laser and green laser was obtained for different concentrations (0, 3, 6, and 9) wt% of Pb3O4 in the polymer matrix PEO and different angles of laser beam incidence. Polymer nanocomposites have broad applications including: electromagnetic absorption shields, cut-off laser, laser filters, and photo-electronics.
