Abstract

A simple amplitude decision based symbol timing synchronization method for real-time IMDD-OOFDM transmission systems is proposed and experimentally evaluated by using directly modulated DFB laser in 25 km SSMF. The experimental results show that the hardware resource consumption of the proposed synchronization technique is only 6% of the total system which can effectively release the computation complexity without sacrificing the synchronization accuracy. Less than 2 samples offset error of synchronization accuracy can be achieved at received optical power as low as − 20 dBm without employing correlation and multiplication operations.
