Remote control of turn-on latency time in a semiconductor diode laser

Abstract

Turn-on latency time is numerically investigated in a system of unidirectionally coupled semiconductor diode lasers. The optical output of a diode laser (master) is unidirectionally injected into another diode laser (slave). The slave’s turn-on latency time is found to have a logarithmic dependence on master’s transmission coefficient. This dependency is studied at different bias levels of the lasers. The frequency detuning between the lasers is found to influence the turn-on latency time, and is found that the turn-on latency time is relatively larger for positive detuning than that of negative detuning. Thus, we present a possibility of a remote control of the turn-on latency time of a diode laser (slave) by controlling the operating parameters of another (master) diode laser.
