Growth and arrangement of strain bands in the deformation zone (Chernov–Luders band) under tension of specimens of steel 09G2S that have undergone normalizing is studied using the method of correlation of digital images. The rates of longitudinal (over the loading axis) and transverse growth of the strain bands and of the deformation zone are evaluated. Transmission electron microscopy is used to study the dislocation structure inside the first strain band up to its intersection with the second band. It is shown that the arising strain bands intersect pairwise in the middle of the specimen and in the germinative centers located near the edges of the flat specimen, as a result of which they are arranged in a truss-like manner.
