Effect of Initial Structure on the Characteristics of Austenite Formed Under Heat Treatment of Spring Steels

Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The influence of the initial structure parameters on formation of austenite grains under heat treatment of pearlitic spring steels is studied. Metallographic and x-ray diffraction analyses are performed. The structural characteristics of the austenite, i.e., the conventional grain diameter, the diversity of grain sizes, the nonequiaxed condition, the inhomogeneity, and the dislocation density, are determined. It is recommended to assign the austenitization temperature differentially depending on the initial structure of the steel.
