A Study of Cyclic Fracture of Structural Materials Under Low-Cycle Overloads

Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The influence of preliminary low-cycle overloads on the fatigue fracture resistance in the stages of formation and propagation of cracks in cyclically hardened steels is studied. The regular features of changes in the structural state under the overloads and its relation to the stress-strain diagram are determined using metallographic and x-ray diffraction analyses. The prehistory of the process of fatigue loading is shown to affect the kinetics of the accumulation of damage and the mechanism of fatigue fracture of the steel.
