A new method for improving ferritic-pearlitic steel brittle fracture resistance is considered. The favorable effect of thermal improvement and subsequent programmed strengthening hardening during additional medium-temperature tempering is demonstrated on the example of steel 09G2S. The new technology makes it possible to lower the steel 09G2S critical brittleness temperature Tc0 determined in terms of the criterion of fracture energy intensity by 20°C, and to increase steel impact strength at –90°C by about a factor of three with retention of the specified strength properties.
