Welded joints of parts made of austenitic steel 12Kh18N10T and the precision alloy 29NK in which defects in the form of cracks arise are studied. It is established that the welds appears to be inhomogeneous in terms of chemical composition and grain size. It is shown that different factors that determine the magnitude of the stresses and deformations in welded joints influence the formation of cracks.

Notes
The electron microscopic investigations were performed at the Center of Electron Microscopy of the Institute of Physics of Metals, Ural Division, Russian Academy of Sciences. The authors wish to express their gratitude to N. V. Nikolaeva for conducting the structural investigations on a scanning microscope.
