Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Methods of mathematical simulation are used to consider the processes of formation of temperature fields and residual stresses and the structural transformations arising due to heat treatment that includes quenching and tempering in composite rolling rolls with a facing from high-strength steel 30N12M6K10B on the surface layer. The effect of the rates of heating and cooling on the temporary stresses formed in a roll is studied. The use of rapid quenching heating and slow air cooling is shown to be appropriate for obtaining rolling rolls with acceptable levels of residual stresses. An expedient mode for heat treatment of composite rolling rolls is suggested.
