Model of formation of amorphous ribbon in the process of hardening of a planar stream of melt

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Amathematical model of the process of formation of amorphous ribbon due to hardening of a planar stream of melt on the surface of a rotating drum cooler is suggested. The model is based on the use of a balance approach to solving equations of hydrodynamics and heat conduction. It makes it possible to compute the dynamics of the geometrical characteristics of the zone of formation of a ribbon including the thickness of the ribbon, the mean temperature of the zone, and the dependence of these parameters on the parameters of the process and on the physical properties of the melt.
