Hardenability of Drill Bit Steels

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Abstract

Results of a study of the hardenability of chromium-manganese-nickel-molybdenum steels (of type 19KhGNMA) used for manufacturing drill bit legs are presented. The effect of the direction of fibers in the specimens on the level and scattering of the hardness values in the hardenability band is determined. A comparative analysis of the distribution of hardness over cross sections of specimens of domestic and imported steels after quenching of ends is performed.
