An Erratum to this article was published on 17 January 2015

We consider an approach to the measurement of the parameters of the structural elements of the nuclei of blood cells, used for the recognition of blast cells in microscopic images of hematological specimens. A model is proposed for the description of the optical characteristics of the nuclei of the cells of the leukocyte series on the basis of qualitative signs used by a physician in clinical laboratory diagnosis for the microscopic analysis of blood smears.
