The use of infrared analyzers in the near and middle infrared bands to estimate the quality characteristics of petroleum and petroleum products is considered. The metrological characteristics of these analyzers and apparatus, operating using traditional measurement procedures, are compared. The problems involved in certifying these analyzers are considered and ways of solving the problems of providing metrological backup are proposed.
