Use of Hilbert–Huang transformation in the measurement of the roughness of surfaces

The Hilbert–Huang transformation for processing contour tracing (profilograph) patterns in order to select individual components from the results, such as noise profiles, roughness profiles, and undulation profiles as well as shape deviations, is considered.
