In Thomas S. Kuhn: La búsqueda de la estructura, Juan Vicente Mayoral presents both an intellectual biography of Kuhn himself, and an account of the genesis of his best-known work, Structure of Scientific Revolutions (Kuhn 1962). This is far from being the first study of Kuhn to draw on the extensive archival materials collected at MIT after Kuhn’s death in 1996, along with interviews and unpublished sources deposited elsewhere. But it does constitute a significant advance along the trail blazed by Andresen (1999), Fuller (2000), Hoyningen-Huene (1995, 2006, 2012, 2015), Hufbauer (2012), and Pinto de Oliveira (2012, 2017), to name just a few of the scholars laboring to expand our understanding of the consensual patron saint of HPS.

There is much in Kuhn’s story, as related by Mayoral, that will be well known to habitual students of Kuhn’s work and life. But though the significance of Kuhn’s interactions with Percy Williams Bridgman and James B. Conant, and of his encounters with the...
