The paper considers the results of a pilot-industrial experiment on the utilization of metallurgical production wastes in the sintering process at the Yenakiyeve Iron and Steel Works sinter shop.
A technology was developed for the preparation and utilization of metallurgical production wastes, including the partial joint dehydration of sludges from blast-furnace and converter gas cleaners to a 20–40% moisture content, mixing them with dry secondary materials (blast furnace and aspiration dust, sinter oversize, etc.), supplying a sludge-containing mixture to a piled iron ore concentrate at the ore yard, as well as their mixing, pelletizing with other charge components, and sintering.
As a result of using a sludge-containing mixture in the sinter charge in the amount of 296.1 kg per tonne of sinter, the total waste consumption of metallurgical production was increased from 352.3 to 575.2 kg/ton of sinter by replacing expensive iron ore components of the sinter charge. At the same time, no increase in the content of 0–5 mm fines in the sinter or significant deterioration in its strength characteristics was observed.
